What is Acne?




Acne is a skin situation that occurs when the oil-secreting glands in the skin are clogged and grow to be inflamed or infected. It usually appears on your face, neck, chest, back and shoulders. Acne most commonly affects 70-90 % of teenagers, during their adolescence. Teens get acne because of the hormonal changes that come with puberty. It is not dangerous but can leave skin scars.


Symptoms to look for




1. Blackheads


Blackheads are small black or yellowish bumps that upsurge on the skin.


2. Whiteheads


They have a similar appearance to blackheads but can be firmer and have a white centre.


3. Papules


They are small red bumps that may feel tender or painful.


4. Nodules


They are large hard lumps that build up underneath the surface of the skin and are commonly painful.


5. Pimple


They are also small red bumps, similar to papules but have a white tip in the centre caused by pus. They are also distressing and aching.


6. Cysts


Cysts are large, pus-filled lumps that appear similar to boils. They are the most serious type of spots and have the supreme menace of causing permanent scarring.


What Causes Acne?





Acne occurs when the hair follicles become plugged with oil and dead skin cells. Some people are simply more sensitive than others to this reaction. People who are prone to acne often have skin that is oiler than normal. Nobody is very definite what causes acne; rather it is an upshot of many factors coming together to form this acne situation and they are,


1. Overproduction of sebum (oil)


2. Build up of bacteria


3. Irregular shedding of dead skin


4. Hormonal changes


5. Diet


6. Medications and drugs


7. Stress


8. Family history of acne


9. Friction or skin pressure


10. Greasy foods and chocolates


11. Dirty skin or direct skin contact with greasy or oily substances


Things You Should Not Do





1. Do not scrub your face hard with a washcloth; try cleansing your face gently.


2. Do not wear makeup or sunscreen until and unless it is labeled “oil free”, “non-comedogenic” or “non-acnegenic” 


3. Do not sleep without removing all of your make-up so it doesn’t choke your pores.


4. Do not keep your hair in contact with your face if you use hair sprays or gels, it can also block pores.


5. Do not touch or squeeze your pimple anyway; it can leave tiny, permanent scars on your face.


6. Do not use any of the creams or lotions without following the instructions or directions to prevent acne. It can make the acne trouble go worse.


Take Care Of Your Self BY Following These Effortless Instructions:





1. Wash your face twice a day with a gentle soap or a face wash.


2. Don’t squeeze, pick, scratch or rub your skin pointlessly.


3. Wash your hands more frequently and evade touching your face unnecessarily.


4. Shampoo your hair at least 2 times a week.


5. Pull your hair away from your face when you sleep.


6. Try and avoid the foods which make your acne worse.


7. Make an effort not to get sunburned.


8. Do exercise, or meditation to avoid your stress and be physically fit.


9. Avoid working in hot kitchens where greasy foods are cooked, especially if you have an oily skin.


10. Don’t rest your face on your hands while you read, study or watch TV.


Ayurvedic Remedies For Acne



Remedies using Garlic




Garlic adds a super taste to your food and it even has Allicin which produces antioxidants and makes the skin smooth, ruddy face, and helps in Acne Removal.


Remedy # 1


1. Cut the garlic into slices, and apply it on the acne scar


2. Press it firmly for one minute


3. Let the pieces of the garlic wedged to the face by itself


4. Feel the heating after 5-10 minutes


5. Take it off after a few minutes


6. It is not suitable for sensitive skin


This remedy is for the acne scar; don’t apply it on the acne! 


Remedy # 2


1. Seize 2-3 garlic cloves


2. Squash them to make a paste


3. Apply the paste on the area exaggerated by acne or any other skin problem


4. For, sensitive skin add yogurt in the paste and then apply 


Remedy Using Coriander Leaves And Turmeric Powder




1. Take few washed coriander leaves


2. Crush them delicately 


3. Place the crushed leaves on a strainer and depress to haul out the juice


4. Then add a bit of turmeric powder


5. Blend it well


6. Apply this quality paste on your face every night before sleeping


Yoga Poses that can help you lead a healthier as well as acne free life.


1. Cross Legged Pose (Sukhasana)




The name “Sukhasana” is derived from a Sanskrit word “Sukha” which means pleasure and “Asana” means pose. It has various benefits and one of them helps you get rid of Acne and Pimples. Here are the steps to get started with:


1. Sit down on the floor on a mat/carpet and spread your legs straight out in front of your body and stretch them.


2. Bend your left knee and fold it in such a way that the sole of your left feet is placed in the inner side of your right thigh. Do the same for your right knee, and place the respective sole on the outer side of your left calf muscle.


3. Make your position at ease and rest your knees on the floor comfortably.


4. Keep your back/spine straight and your shoulders and arms rigid.


5. Place your hands on your knees in such a way that your palms should rest on your knees.


6. Remain stable in the position for as long as your capacity allows. Practicing this for 10-15 minutes is idyllic. 


7. Make this an everyday habit to perform this asana.


2.Seated Forward Bend (Paschimottanasana)




This asana helps in reducing stress and powering a healthy living. Here are the steps to get started with:


1. Sit down on the floor on a mat and place your legs straight out in front of you.


2. Bend at your waist


3. And Reach towards your feet


4. If you cannot reach your feet, use a strap as a support.


5. This asana helps you reduce stress in your facial muscles too.


3. Headstand (Sirsasana)




It brings fresh blood to the brain cells and nourishes your skin. If you are new to headstands follow these simple steps to start with:


1. Kneel on the floor facing the wall


2. Leave your forearms on the floor by cupping your hands together and widening your elbows.


3. Place the crown of your head on the floor so your cupped palms touch the back of your head.


4. Hold this position for a while, then lift your knees off the floor and slowly walk your feet towards your head.


5. Make your entire upper body perpendicular to floor.


6. Bring your bent knees toward your chest and gradually stretch your legs up the wall.


7. Avoid this asana, if you have Blood Pressure (BP), Heart Problem, or Migraine Headache. 


Include these asanas in your daily routine and get benefits for a healthy and acne free living.



Home Remedies For Acne Deterrence



1. Apply a mixture of fresh fenugreek leaves (methi) and water. Wash it off the next day with lukewarm water.


2. Combine ground sesame seeds (til) paste with water and apply it on the affected area. It treates skin rashes and allergies too.


3. Apply the pulp of ripe tomatoes on the pretentious area and after 1 hour clean it off.


4. For cracked skin, pimples and blackheads use boiled milk with fresh lime juice as facial wash.


5. Combine 1 tsp. of cinnamon powder (Dalchini) and 1 tsp. of lemon juice and apply it on the affected area.


6. Make an orange peel paste by grinding it with modest amount of water and then apply the paste on the area of your face with pimples.


7. Blend an equal amount of groundnut oil and lime juice. Apply the concoction on the affected area and wash down after 10-15 minutes to prevent blackheads. 


8. For additional blackheads protection, take 1 part of fresh lime juice with one part groundnut oil and apply the mixture on your face.


9. Mint juice if applied every evening regularly can treat pimples. It also treats other skin infections, enzymes and scabies.


10. Potatoes grated and applied on exaggerated area can cure pimples, whiteheads, blackheads, and other skin blemishes.


11. Dab a bit of lemon juice and leave it overnight, and if you apply it during the day kindly don’t go out in the sun with lemon juice on your skin.


12. Smush a little bit of garlic juice on your pimple and leave it on for a while, it kills bacteria faster than you can say. If you are not allergic to milk products, apply organic yogurt for 10 minutes for acne reduction.


13. Placing an ice cube over your acne pimples one by one reduces the redness and swelling from them.


14. Apply the gel or pulp of the Aloe Vera on the acne for acne eruption. It prevents inflammation and reduces the size of the pimple.
